Project work in the Society

The objectives of the West Middlesex Family History Society, as defined in our Constitution, include that activities such as transcription, indexing and publishing of records and other materials, which can assist those researching family history and related subjects in the West Middlesex area, are central to the purposes of the Society.

The Society is open to new ideas on how best to fulfil these objectives. Much transcription work and collection of data has already been accomplished. These are the projects currently in progress or waiting for a volunteer:

  • To complete the collection and transcription of Memorial Inscriptions for our area. We have done all the churches. We are having a go at municipal cemeteries now.

  • To collect and transcribe Poor Law Records for our area. We have completed phase 1, which was to extract and transcribe information from 5000 poor law records we had available online and from printed books. There are another 5000 records to do, but these require visiting records offices, mainly the London Metropolitan Archives. A big job, but a valuable source of family history information.

  • To provide Parish Histories for the parish churches within our area. This has been on our books for ages. We have not produced any new histories for the last 10 years, but there is some space here to create a useful information source.

Further information on these projects may be found from the links above.

If you are a member of the Society and might be interested in helping with any project work, please make yourself known to the Projects Co-ordinator or a member of the Executive Committee.
