Gazetteer for the Greater London area

This page is intended to help identify which of the family history societies that cover the London area has an interest in a particular place. Please type the name of the place in the box below and press the Search button.

Enter place name:

The search is not case-sensitive. Note also that the search will accept partial place names. For example, entering "sta" will return, among others, Staines, Stanmore and Stanwell, while "ham" will return Hampton, Fulham, Hammersmith, Laleham, etc. Multiple results may be split over several pages, which may be accessed by following the links provided. The columns of the table can be sorted by clicking on the link on the appropriate heading. Church dedications (e.g. St Mary) are not indexed, except for the City of London and cases elsewhere for which they provide the principal names by which the parish is known (e.g. St Pancras).

If the village / hamlet / parish in which you are interested does not appear to be listed when you would expect it to, please inform the Webmaster. The scope of this lookup tool is approximately defined by the route of the present M25 motorway.
