Aids to finding useful websites

Search Engines to find ancestors

  • Find My Past.
  • Ancestry Co.
  • Genes Reunited: Allows users to find their ancestors and to share information with living relatives and other searchers.
  • Family Search: The genealogy site of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It includes a searchable database with over 400 million names, including the latest version of the International Genealogical Index.
  • Rootsweb: A large genealogical co-operative with branches throughout the world and with links to many research projects. It includes mailing lists on a wide range of topics, allowing users to contact other family historians with common interests.
  • The Genealogist.
  • MyHeritage.

Libraries, archives, and information sources

  • The National Archives: The starting point for accessing the wealth of material held in the UK's national archive.
  • Access to Archives (A2A): Contains searchable catalogues describing archives held throughout the UK, including most county record offices.
  • British Library: Access to the collections of the British Library, with a link to the online catalogue.
  • Genealogy in the UK and Ireland: Genealogical information service including information on places, libraries, archives, family history societies, directories, gazetteers and more.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be held on Thursday 21st November 2019 at St. John's Centre, Isleworth. Doors open at 7.15 pm. The focus of the meeting will be a talk by Gill Thomas titled One Street Studies. See the Meetings page.

Next Advice Session

Our next Advice Session will be held at Feltham Library on Saturday 16th November from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. These sessions need to be booked. See the Advice page.

Free access to Find My Past records

As they have done before Find My Past will be providing free access to all their military and civilian records ahead of Remembrance Day from 12pm GMT on 8th November to 12 pm on Monday 11th November, see their free-acess page for more information.
