Activities

This section of the site outlines the main activities of the Society.

  • Our most regular activity is our Monthly Meetings held on the third Thursday of each month at St. John's Centre in Isleworth. The meetings are an excellent way of meeting all those who are most active in supporting the Society. We are very happy for guests to come to these meetings to see what goes on. We bring our bookstall and our library to these meetings.

  • Attending our meetings by Zoom is now the usual option, and we record the talk. Members who are unable to attend these Zoom meetings may never-the-less use the Meetings Playback page to replay the last recorded talk.

  • About four or five times a year the Society sets up stall at the nearest and best attended of Family History Society Open Days and Fairs. See the referenced page for the fairs we plan to visit in the next few months. This is our way of telling interested people about the Society. We always take our bookstall to the fairs, and usually a Computer connected to the internet by wifi, so we can display our website, and also access websites such as Find My Past.

  • From time to time we will also sponsor an event in our area, where there is a strong local history or family history connection at the event. See the Sponsored Events page for any upcoming events we may be sponsoring.

  • We all need advice from time to time, and when our interest is in researching family history then finding a helpful hand is particularly helpful. See our Advice page for how to contact us to receive advice.

  • Since its inception the Society has always had some projects on the go, which are a mix of getting out there and collecting information, and the transcribing and indexing of records. See our Projects page for the projects we are currently active in, and where we would like some additional help.

  • Here also on Our own Youtube page we provide access to any YouTube videos created specifically for our Society.

  • One further activity which generally gives great satisfaction is to take on one of the Society's many roles. While most of these roles are listed on our Contacts page there are a few more roles besides, and we welcome any volunteer who is ready to take on any of our roles, whether there is an incumbent or not. This includes serving on our Executive Committee, which meets every other month on the first Wednesday of the month in Hounslow. Any volunteer for any role should make themselves known to the Secretary.
